Surveillance Policy
1. Purpose
Adelaide Airport Limited (AAL, we, our) operates Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance, number plate recognition technology, and other monitoring and observational tools (the Surveillance System) throughout the Adelaide Airport facility (including the terminal, car parks and surrounding areas) (Airport) for security, operational and safety related purposes.
2. Objectives of Surveillance System
Our Surveillance System is used:
- to assist in the prevention and detection of acts of unlawful interference against aviation;
- to deter individuals from committing acts of unlawful interference against aviation, or engaging in other unlawful or unsafe behaviour, so as to promote the safety and security of all persons at the Airport;
- to assess and respond to suspected or known unlawful or unsafe acts and to collect intelligence relevant to security;
- to assist Government and law enforcement agencies to detect and investigate unlawful or unsafe acts, including identification of offenders and to collect intelligence relevant to security;
- for operational purposes, including working with airlines to ensure the efficient operation of flight schedules and passenger services; and
- to assist in responding to a complaint or claim brought in relation to the Airport.
3. Storage, use and disclosure of surveillance information
Footage from the Surveillance System is maintained in accordance with AAL's policies and is monitored by AAL's trained security officers. AAL uses reasonable efforts to maintain footage in a secure location with restricted access, to minimise unauthorised access, modification, disclosure, misuse, interference or loss of that footage.
Footage will be disclosed in limited circumstances permitted or as required by law. For example:
- disclosure to law enforcement or Government bodies; or
- disclosure required under a subpoena which AAL is required to comply with by law.
We may also disclose information collected from the Surveillance System to airlines and other operators at the Airport to assist in providing a safe and secure environment.
Depending on the nature of an access request, the person requesting access may need to cover AAL's reasonable expenses in providing access to the Surveillance System prior to access being granted.
