What to expect at security screening
A quick guide for travellers with access needs, mobility aids, medical devices or assistance animals.
Security screening
Everyone going through to the main airport terminal must go through security screening. If you have a disability, medical condition or access needs, such as mobility aids, implants or an assistance animal, let the security screening officers know. They may provide alternative screening methods to ensure you are screened comfortably and respectfully.
If you use a wheelchair, walker or mobility scooter:
- You will be screened using a hand-held metal detector or a manual pat-down.
- Your mobility aid will be visually and physically inspected, but you do not need to leave it.
- You may request screening in a private room at any time.

Volunteer ambassadors
You’ll spot our Volunteer Ambassadors in their distinctive dark red uniforms (or occasionally a pink Customer Care visibility vest), they are ready to lend a hand with directions, answer questions, or simply offer a friendly face if you're feeling unsure. They’re stationed throughout the terminal and can help with anything from wayfinding to local attraction info.
Accessible bathrooms
Accessible toilets are available throughout the terminal and are designed to accommodate travellers using wheelchairs or mobility aids. These bathrooms are spacious and equipped with safety features to ensure comfort and independence.
Changing Places facilities
Adelaide Airport proudly offers Changing Places bathrooms, specialised spaces for people with high support needs who require more than a standard accessible toilet. These facilities include a height-adjustable adult changing bench, a ceiling hoist system and space for up to two carers.
You'll find Change place bathrooms in the following locations:
- Level 2, near Gate 16 (in the retail concourse, near McDonald's)
- Level 2, near Gate 18 (international departures)
- Level 1, near Duty Free (international arrivals)
Access requires a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK), which you can learn more about on the NDS website.

For travellers seeking a quiet space to pray, reflect or unwind, we offer dedicated quiet rooms. These are open to all travellers and located on:
